Double Feature

Have you ever thought to yourself that you could skip doing something and make it up later?  Skip doing the first few pages of your report and just work twice as hard the next day to make it up?  Maybe skip preparing dinner in the morning only to spend twice as much time after work getting it ready?  Skip mowing the lawn this week only to have twice as much grass to dump out the next.

Today was one of those days for me.  I woke up at 3:55 ready to roll out of bed when I discovered that my muscles were not cooperating.  Since I decided to start working out twice per day this week I was excited to complete the whole week without missing a beat.  But the thought of doing a workout at that moment was not the top priority for me.  The difference between old Earl and new Earl is that – instead of giving up and being lazy for the day – I told myself I would do both of my workouts in the afternoon.

And that’s exactly what I did.

I had an incredibly rough day at work.  I had an escalation that took almost the entire day followed by a larger escalation from my manager followed by finding out I had pissed off a co-worker with a completely innocent comment.  When I got home, the last thing I wanted to do was sit on my butt.

So I got dressed and went down to the basement and put in Turbo Jam.

Turbo Jam, really?

Turbo Jam

Yes.  It may not be the best workout in the world but it is a pretty decent cardio workout as long as you do it correctly.  I worked through the entire Cardio Party 3 and then threw in another “Fat Burning” workout by Tony Horton immediately before I let myself cool down, relaxed and showered.

It probably would have been easier to stay awake in the morning, exercised at that time, and then do the second exercise in the afternoon.  But since that didn’t happen, I wasn’t going to let myself talk myself into not doing everything I could to push myself today.  And believe me… I am pretty persuasive when I argue with myself.

Arguing with myself

Breakfast – Corn dog omelet
Snacks – Protein and granola bars
Lunch – Chicken marinara bake
Dinner – Green bean spaghetti
Dessert – Cracklin’ Oat Bran and wheat & barley nuggets

An hour+ of walking at work

  1. well done 🙂

3:55 sounds far too early to get up!

I really struggle with mornings and can only manage a work out in the morning if I am meeting someone…but as you say, it doesn’t matter as long as you follow through with you promise to yourself to make it up later 😀

    1. Oh… 3:55 is WAY to early, but if I want to do it twice a day, gotta get up early since my shift starts at 5:45 anyway. I enjoy working out twice per day, and doing it in the morning really does seem to refresh me for the day. I only wish my muscles wouldn’t get so sore. No matter how much stretching I do afterwards, by Thursday or Friday they are hurtin’ a bit.

      1. I agree, I love working out in the morning, I always feel better when I manage it…but I can never quite make myself believe that when I am in bed!
